| Swedish Museum Singers Christmas Concert |

The Swedish Museum Singers under the direction of Sarah Gulish rang in the Christmas season with an inspiring night of music at ASHM. The capacity audience in the Grand Hall enjoyed traditional Swedish songs and glorious vocals that rivaled the beauty of the museum's holiday decor. The evening was capped off by an appearance of Lucia and light seasonal refreshments - gingerbread cookies and Glögg. |
| Julbord and Lucia Celebrations |

December 7-8, 2007
At Friday evening's Julbord featured a tremendous Smörgåsbord, which was followed by an enchanting Lucia Procession. Saturday featured two more Lucia Processions. The Swedish Christmas Café sold Swedish cheese, herring and other delicacies. The Auxiliary of ASHM and SWEA Philadelphia made and sold tempting baked goods and Christmas gifts from the Museum Gift Shop were available at the Julmarknad.

For the Fall Cooking Class the four Swedish chefs made dishes traditional to the celebration of Mårten Gås St. Martin's Goose Day in the southern province of Skåne. Those who attended the sold out class also learned how to make the traditional Potatiskorv Potato sausage and much more. Mmmmmmm...

| Genealogy Club Meeting |

The Swedish Genealogy Club enjoyed the expert advise of Carl Klase, Assistant Administrator of Pennypacker Mills, during their Fall gathering. Carl provided practical information about taking care of and preserving old photographs, postcards and other paper documents. He also shared a presentation on Governor Pennypacker, who was one of the "great Genealogists of the past."

Families from the local South Philadelphia area enjoyed a safe night of trick-or-treating at the ASHM's annual Halloween Party. This year in addition to the spooktacular decorations, creepy crafts and goolish games, the museum welcomed storyteller Kristen Pedimonti, who shared folktales from around the world. |
| Fall Luncheon |

The Auxiliary presented a lovely luncheon this fall featuring special guest Toni Seaflower of the Lenape/Cherokee Nations. Ms. Seaflower shared her insights on Lenape culture, including clothing, music and traditional dance. The audience was welcomed to participate in several dances and was warmed by both Ms. Seaflower's enlightening words and the Auxiliary's autumnal lunch which followed. |
| New Sweden History Conference |

The 7th annual New Sweden History Conference commemorated the tercentenary of Linnaeus's birth and focused on the role of Pehr Kalm (Linnaeus's "apostle" in America) in the development of the early North American scientific community and in the religious and ethnic history of southern New Jersey during the mid-18th century.

| Second Annual ASHM Golf Classic |

It was a perfect day for golf as as the ASHM golfers went out to FDR golf club to play. The team from Capozzi Real Estate won top honors in the "Skål Bowl" championship. In addition to the may golf competitions, participants enjoyed raffles and a wonderful dinner prepared by the Auxiliary.

| Annual Meeting & Amandus Johnson Service Award |

During the 81st Annual Meeting of the American Swedish Historical Museum the Amandus Johnson Service Award was presented to Robert E. Savage and Marna Feldt. The Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the ASHM through there service over a number of years.

The opening of the special exhibition Madeleine Hatz: Building a View
featured a gallery talk by Madeleine Hatz. The artist shared information about her artistic process and practice, as well as the inspiration behind some of her large-scale abstract paintings, such as Red Bricks Flying.

Museum members and friends enjoyed this late summer Swedish tradition. The crayfish meal at ASHM featured a choice of a platter with crayfish only or a platter with crayfish and roast beef and was accompanied by potato salad, salad, bread, cheese and dessert. The serving of snaps inspired much happy singing - by both those who know the words to the drinking songs and those who are still learning! |

The eighteen musicians that make up the Danish Accordion Orchestra, Accordenova, thrilled the audience with their program of classical and semi-classical arrangements for accordion. From Philadelphia they traveled to Washington D.C. where, among other venues, they performed at the Kennedy Center.

The Askersunds Male Choir concert entertained a full contingent in the Grand Hall with their extensive repertoire of 50-60’s rock and roll tunes as well as traditional Swedish songs. |

The weather for Midsommarfest was perfect this year for ASHM's annual celebration, which featured wonderful music, joyous dancing around the midsummerpole and delicious Swedish food.

At Walpurgis Night, on the last day of April, spring is welcomed and celebrated in the age-old Swedish tradition of singing around a bonfire. Valborgsmässoafton at ASHM features musical entertainment by the Swedish Museum Singers, refreshments, traditional bonfire and more singing in front of the Museum in FDR Park.

A "ting" is a gathering. The ASHM's annual spring gathering welcomed friends for a celebration featuring a reception, buffet, and both silent and live auctions.The presentation of the 2007 Outstanding Achievement Award to Count Peder Bonde was a highlight of this year's celebration. All proceeds from Spring Ting support the ASHM's exhibits and educational programs.

Easter Craft Workshop |

The young and the young at heart took part in the museum's annual Easter celebration. Children, both boys and girls, dressed up in old clothes to depict Easter witches (a tradition in Sweden). Then families spent time together crafting lots of traditional Easter decorations to take home and enjoy. The workshop came to a close just in time for an Easter egg hunt on the museum grounds.
