Crafted with precision by Colt’s Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut, this masterpiece boasts a .36 caliber, 6-shot cylinder, and a commanding 7 ½-inch barrel.
The revolver belonged to Nere Albert Elfwing, who was born in Sweden in 1832. Elfwing later moved to America and was employed at the Swedish Embassy in Washington.
This revolver’s tale took a dramatic turn in the 1970s when it was stolen from the museum’s collection. The Art Crime Division of the FBI began searching for various objects stolen from museums, including firearms, all along the Eastern Coast of the United States in the late 2000s. In 2018, there was a breakthrough in the case, which led to the recovery and eventual repatriation of the revolver to the American Swedish Historical Museum.
