Have you ever wondered where local Ancestral Indigenous trails from the 17th century are located?
Join us for an all-day fall motoring tour on remote back roads and walking trails, some of which are reputed to have been used by Indigenous peoples in southern New Jersey. Be prepared for beautiful and remote trails, interesting history, lessons on the Pine Barrens, and some enjoyable tales as well.
Event Information:
Date: Saturday, October 10, 2026, 8 am to 5 pm (Rain date will be in the Spring of 2027).
Tour Limit: This tour will be limited to 15 participants. We will form carpools at the meeting point. We will follow interesting historic roads from Philadelphia to the Pine Barrens and back.
Tour Length and Conditions: about 70 miles round-trip, Philadelphia to Pine Barrens, slower pace with a number of stops for viewing and photography. Hard surface and some hard-packed clay roads, very low traffic volumes. We will take optional walks at several sites, traversing several sections of unbroken, endless forest.

Bob has served for several decades on the City’s Historical Commission, as well as on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations oriented to preservation, conservation and community revitalization. Bob shares his passion for history and trails by giving lectures and leading tours in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and the northern Delmarva Peninsula and elsewhere.
