Toddler Time: A World Made of Wood

Swedes have been working with wood for hundreds of years. This month at Toddler Time families will get to explore ASHM’s collection of carved wooden art. We will read “Harvey the Carpenter” by Swedish children’s author Lars Klinting to get an introduction to basic tools. Children will play with wooden toys and even make their own wooden picture frame to take home!

Toddler Time: Keeping Warm in Winter

It’s important to pick the right clothes to keep warm in winter.  Join us as we read The Hat by Jan Brett and explore some of Sweden’s cold weather clothing. Toddlers will have fun playing interactive games based on the animal characters from the book and enjoy a winter snack.

Toddler Time is a monthly program, every third Tuesday of the Month. Cost is $5 per child or free for Museum Household Members. There is no charge for accompanying caregivers. No pre-registration required, pay at the door.

Hearth and Heritage at the ASHM

You can tie nearly everything that the American Swedish Historical Museum does to the word ‘home.’ Our founder sought to celebrate the Swedes who had made America their new home, we preserve and interpret the artifacts used within our ancestors’ homes, and we remind Swedes and Scandinavians that, among friends and family at our cultural celebrations, they should consider the Museum as another home.

1919-An Empowering Year

2018 has been a year of momentous elections in Sweden and America. As newly-elected representatives decide upon issues of immigration, social policies, and globalism, we reflect upon the histories of progressivism and human rights that have pushed both countries onto the world stage today.
