Crayfish Party!

Summer means spending time in nature, getting together with friends and family, and of course, putting on funny hats and bibs to eat crayfish! What, you have never tasted a crayfish or decorated your outdoor space with red crustaceans, paper lanterns, and sung a drinking song at the top of your lungs? Well, the Swedes would say you are missing out on one of the most enjoyable traditions of summer!

And Let Victory Tell the Rest: 250 Years of Shipbuilding in Greater Philadelphia

As one of the nation’s premier shipbuilding and repair regions in the world, the Greater Philadelphia region has built many ships for the United States Navy. From the early days of the Continental Navy during the American Revolution to the nuclear-powered warships of the Cold War, these facilities were a critical component of the Navy’s operations in defending America and its allies abroad. This exhibit showcases some of these ships, the people that helped build them, and their role in defending America.

Virtual Pop-Up 5-Week Swedish Pronunciation Language Class: Mondays, May 12, – Jun 9, 2025

Join us for a pop-up Swedish language class opportunity!  This language class session is open to all and will focus on pronunciation. The melody in the Swedish language is often something that people like. Why does it sound like a melody when you speak Swedish? The melody, or the intonation in the spoken language depends on for example, word accents, emphasis or stress on vowels or consonants in a word.

Materials will be provided (PDF and photocopies). You only need to bring your pen and notepad! Classes will be held via Zoom.

Exhibition Opening: And Let Victory Tell the Rest: 250 Years of Shipbuilding in Greater Philadelphia

Join ASHM, the National Museum of the United States Navy (NMUSN), and Navy officials for a grand opening reception.

This guest-curated exhibition explores the production of American naval ships in the Delaware Valley. NMUSN Curator Gordon Calhoun and ASHM Curator Brett Peters will circulate in the exhibit throughout the evening to discuss this fascinating aspect of industrial naval history and its Swedish connections.
