Gather with fellow ASHM members and explore the branches of your Swedish ancestry. The meeting will include a lecture by Across the Brooklyn Bridge author John Lundin. In his talk, John will discuss the challenges of researching and writing a multi-generational epic that gives historical context to his family’s story and takes the reader on a journey from Sweden to America to the Pacific in World War II.

Don’t miss this opportunity to get an in-depth look at the gallery spaces with Museum Curator Trevor Brandt. Celebrate the stories told by ASHM’s collection and its global connections! This exhibition includes selections of the handmade textiles presented to the American Swedish Historical Museum in 1938 from every province of Sweden.
Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) – renowned Swedish director, scriptwriter, theater manager, dramatist, and author – would have been 100 years old in July 2018. To honor this accomplished filmmaker, Bergman’s anniversary is being celebrated worldwide.

We are super excited for the upcoming Sweden vs. England game on Saturday, July 7, and we invite everyone to watch it with us on our big screen projector in the Josef Frank Gallery! The museum will open at 9am, and the game starts at 10am. Fika (Swedish pancakes and cinnamon bread) will be available for purchase.
Tickets are included with general museum admission, no pre-registration required.
The hand speaks and craft communicates from the heart. Fiber sculptor Ted Hallman examines the relationship between traditional and modern craft through three contemporary installations on ASHM’s first floor.
What makes the perfect gift? For many people, it is something that is handmade. In celebration of thoughtful, handmade gifts, the ASHM is featuring one of its most cherished gifts. This exhibition includes selections of the 75 handmade textiles presented to the American Swedish Historical Museum in 1938 from every province of mainland Sweden.
Be sure to check out our second ASHM free summer evening concert on the Terrace. Norwegian musician Ann-Marita will bring the audience along on a journey through the centuries as she performs Scandinavian folk, contemporary, and original songs centered around stories about Scandinavian immigrants in the United States. Food and drinks will be available to purchase throughout the evening. No pre-registration needed.
We are excited to announce our plans to visit Seattle September 20-September 24. The trip will include a visit and tour of the new Nordic Museum, with Director Eric Nelson, lunch at their new Café Freya, a tour of the Ballard Locks, a visit to a Swedish bakery and dinner at the Swedish Club.
