Get a taste of Swedish summer at our annual Crayfish Party, where plates will be piled high with crayfish, cooked Swedish-style in salted water with lots of dill. The meal is accompanied by savory cheese pie, meatballs, crisp bread, dill potatoes, salad, aquavit and dessert. Once again, dinner will be served outside under our beautiful lighted and decorated tent, overlooking beautiful FDR Park. So come eat, drink and make merry to mark the close of summer in Swedish style!

Head over to ASHM for a free summer evening concert on the Terrace. The Oskar Stenmark Trio combines traditional Swedish melodies with improvisation and New York jazz sounds. Get your motor running with this month’s Toddler Time! Kids will explore all modes of transportation and they ways people get around in Sweden. Kids will get to race cars on our velocity ramps, explore a cityscape, float a boat, and make their own transportation art project to take home.
Toddler Time is a monthly program, every third Tuesday of the Month. Cost is $5 per child or free for Museum Household Members. There is no charge for accompanying caregivers. Registration is recommended, but not required. Register online or pay at the door.
Spend a gorgeous summer evening at the Museum in FDR Park enjoying regional and international beer while sampling traditional Swedish food with a modern twist. How was a small, backward country in a remote corner of the Russian empire able to gain independence without being crushed, and more importantly how was Finland able to remain independent in spite of many challenges? Besides analyzing the pathway to independence, Sharon Rahkonen of Indiana University PA will also discuss several factors which led to Finland's subsequent success as an independent nation.
Light, warmth and Christmas songs have been hallmarks of the Lucia celebration at ASHM since 1939. Each year families pour through the magnificent bronze doors of the museum to be greeted by the aroma of freshly baked pastries, meatball dishes and strong Swedish coffee. Stroll through the Christmas Market, or Julmarknad , where Swedish delicacies, crafts, decorations, and imported gifts may be purchased, before the musical entertainment begins.
As you may know, one of the most important parts of traditional Swedish Christmas celebrations is the food. So please join us for this classic Swedish holiday celebration, where cocktails and an authentic Christmas smorgasbord dinner are followed by a magical Lucia procession. The Christmas Market will be open all evening. Members $50, non-members $60, children age 4-12 $25. Cash bar.
Celebrate summer at our annual Midsommarfest, complete with food, drinks, home-made Swedish pastries, music and maypole dancing, as well as face painting and games for the kids. Members $8, Non-members $12, Children 4-12 $5. Pay at the door.
Its World Cup time again and that means everyone is crazy for soccer. This month at Toddler Time, kids will learn about this beloved sport at story time, get to practice their best kicks, and take home a flag to root on Sweden during their big games. Be sure to bring the family back to ASHM on June 23rd for the Sweden vs. Germany World Cup viewing party and stay for Midsommar fun!
