The American Swedish Historical Museum is excited to celebrate Finland at our Spring Ting Fundraiser on April 29th. Join us for an evening with a catered three-course dinner by Jeffery A. Miller Catering, a silent auction, and a musical performance by a string trio led by Brooke Beazley. This will also be the perfect opportunity to view the Radically Marimekko exhibition.
Sweden’s National Day is on June 6th. This month we will learn what makes Sweden special! We will read the book The Swedish Girl of Motala by Eric Basir and learn about different people who call Sweden home. Children will play games and participate in our National Day parade.

Design critic, Alexandra Lange, will give a virtual talk going beyond the aesthetic elements of Marimekko clothing by exploring the meaning their designs had for feminist icons.
Please join us on Saturday, June 24th at 4 pm to hoist the maypole, dance in celebration, and eat smörgåstårta! Admission to the event includes traditional folk music by the Last Chance Duo, family activities, and full access to the Museum. Food and flower crowns will be available for purchase.

All ASHM and Finnish-American Society of the Delaware Valley members are invited to this exclusive discussion group. Museum members have the opportunity to gather as friends to socialize, learn more about the organization, and get a behind-the-scenes peek at collection objects and exhibits.
The world is made up of shapes, and you can find many shapes in Marimekko fabrics! Children will learn their shapes through interactive songs and stories. Families will then explore the Museum and the Marimekko exhibition as they go on a shape search! Floor games, matching, and stamp art will “round” out their day of fun and learning.

Sweden is a leader when it comes to recycling. Less than 1% of household waste ends up in a landfill! This month families will learn that they can help the Earth too. We will read I Can Save the Earth by Alison Inches. Kids will learn how resources can be reused instead of thrown away by playing games and crafting with recycled materials. Families will even get their hands dirty by pitching in to make a composting pile!
Take a break from your day and join us on a virtual field trip. This month we will visit the House of Emigrants in Växjö, Sweden, and view their exhibition on the history of the great wave of Swedish emigration to America in the 19th and 20th centuries. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the experience of Swedish emigrants coming to the United States.

Join us for the exhibit opening reception with remarks by Ambassador Jarmo Sareva, Consol General Finland, New York, and American Swedish Historical Museum Curator, Christopher Malone, at 6 pm.
Toddlers explore the world using all five senses. This month kids will reinforce their knowledge of the five senses through interactive stories and music movement. Families will visit five rooms in the Museum and test each of their senses. Additional exploratory activities include a scent-matching game, a mystery touch box, and a sound safari.
