Kids will learn what Midsommar is all about and dance in one of Sweden’s most famous maypole traditions- Fem Små Grodor. Children will also play fun frog games and have a hopping good time!

Everyone has fun summer traditions and that’s no exception for people in Sweden. This month at Toddler Time we will read the book Summer in Sweden by Anette Henningson and learn about the great outdoor activities families enjoy together. Kids will also get to experience summer favorites like “fishing”, imagination picnic play, and a nature walk.

Museum members have the opportunity to socialize, learn about the organization, and get a behind-the-scenes peek at collections and exhibits. This month members will have a discussion with Executive Director Tracey Beck and Assistant Director Lauren Burnham about their travels through Sweden in July. Be sure to attend and be ready to compare and discuss your travel experiences!
Get a taste of Swedish summer at our annual Crayfish Party! Enjoy a buffet of crayfish, Swedish meatballs, potato salad, cheese pie, salads, dessert, and a shot of aquavit outside under our decorated tent. Tickets are $55 for ASHM and SACC Philadelphia members and $65 for non-members. Pre-registration is required by August 16th, space is limited.
This summer, join ASHM for a new family game day on August 7th in partnership with SWEA Philadelphia. Teams of 4-6 people are welcome to enter our first ever femkamp and will participate in games such as; potato sack races, obstacle relays, and a blind treasure hunt. The event is all about fun and friendly competition.
Registration is $35 per team. All aged teams are welcome!

Smörgåsbeer is back! Spend a gorgeous summer evening at the American Swedish Historical Museum in FDR Park enjoying regional and international beers alongside Swedish-inspired eats!
SmörgåsBeer party-goers can play trivia and lawn games as well as a traditional Swedish “tipsrunda” or quiz walk through the museum. There is no better way to pass a summer evening than tasting new beers, ciders and more, challenging friends to unique games, and dancing the night away to great music provided by DJ Robert Drake. Amazing prizes will also be raffled throughout the evening.
Be the first to experience the new exhibition Art for All: The Swedish Experience in Mid-America. The exhibition features paintings and sculptures by Swedish-American artists from the late-19th and early-20th centuries. ASHM Curator, Christopher Malone, will discuss the artwork and history in the exhibition throughout the evening. Come enjoy beautiful impressionist artwork at this free event with complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Pre-registration is encouraged.
ASHM is proud to once again be a part of the 2022 PHS Flower Show, "In Full Bloom". The Philadelphia Flower Show will be taking place in FDR Park from June 11-19, 2022.
This year ASHM is participating in the Family Frolic on Sunday, Jun 19th. This day is full of free activities for families. Stop by the ASHM table to make tissue-paper flower crowns and learn about Swedish Midsommar traditions. Families can also visit our Pippi room inside the Museum to play and read Scandinavian children's books.
ASHM is proud to participate again in Wawa Welcome America Free Museum Day. ASHM will be open to the public on Thursday, June 30th, from 10:00 am- 4:00 pm, with free admission to all visitors.
