Museum Tour & Glögg Tasting

Get cozy at the ASHM with our special Museum & Glögg Tour! Join us for our general gallery tour and learn about Scandinavian holiday traditions. Then enjoy some glögg, Swedish pepparkaka and Danish aebleskiver. between the tours. We are offering two tour time slots at 4 pm and 6 pm. The glögg reception will be at 5 pm, either after or before your tour. $5 for members and $15 for non-members.

CraftNOW Create

ASHM is happy to partner again with CraftNOW Create! ASHM will be sharing about recycling and sustainability in Sweden with our craft: Plarn Woven Bowls.

This year Smith Memorial Playground is hosting CraftNOW Create outside on their beautiful campus. Demonstrations and take-home kits will be set up on their wrap-around porch and immediately in front of the Playhouse. Most projects are ideal for elementary-aged students.

Toddler Time: I Can Build Too!

This month at Toddler Time families will get to explore ASHM’s newest exhibit American by Craft: The Furniture of Olof Althin and see the amazing things that can be built from wood. We will read “Harvey the Carpenter” by Swedish children’s author Lars Klinting to get an introduction to basic tools. Children will play with toy tools and even make their own wooden picture frames to take home!

Toddler Time is free for members and $5 per non-member child. You can register below or pay at the door.

Plogging in FDR Park

Join us for our second Plogging in FDR Park! We are excited to partner with the FDR Park staff to help keep our park beautiful. Plogging is a Swedish craze in which you pick up trash while exercising. This event is free but please register below.

Shop From Home Evening

Ready to do some early Christmas shopping, but prefer to do it from home? Sign up for a 20-minute time slot and you will be assigned a personal shopping assistant who will contact you via video chat to help you make selections from the ASHM gift shop. New Sweden History Conference

This year’s conference topic is Bridging Many Worlds: Exploring Concepts of Changing Cultural Identities in the New Sweden Colony. The colonial Mid-Atlantic region was a mixture of Lenape, Susquehannock, Swedish, Finnish, English, and Dutch peoples. This theme invokes exploration of physical and sociopolitical environmental impacts on cultural practices. How did experiences of migration affect traditional customs and concepts of identity during this period, 1638- 1776?
