Toddler Time: Get to Know the Moomins

This is the perfect opportunity to introduce children to the classic Finnish fantasy world of Moomin and his friends. We will be reading Moomin and the Golden Leaf by Tove Jansson. Kids will get to practice early learning skills while exploring the beauty of autumn alongside cherished friends such as Moominmamma, Moominpappa, Snorkmaiden, Little My, Snufkin, Sniff, and Mymble.

Special Collection Tour-Night at the Museum: A Creepy Collection Tour

ASHM is excited to announce a new series of gallery tours! Tours will be on a Thursday evenings, 7-9pm, every other month, each with its own unique theme and focus on the Museum’s collection. Tours are $15 for non-members, $5 for members and will include refreshments.

We are kicking off the series with a "Night at the Museum," a Halloween-inspired tour of the Museum’s creepier collection items, along with a few treats, including light refreshments and drinks. Space is limited, register in advance to reserve your spot.

Cinnamon Bun Day Fika

Cinnamon Bun Day is celebrated every year on October 4th in Sweden. The Home Baking Council started the tradition in 1999 as a way to honor household traditions. Come and enjoy Swedish hand-made cinnamon buns and coffee for a fika break at the Museum. Fika is free with museum admission while supplies last.

Toddler Time: Warm Holiday Traditions

Be sure to join us this month and see the museum decked out in its holiday splendor! Toddlers and families will get into the spirt by learning about fun Swedish holiday traditions such as St. Lucia Day, Pepparkakor, and Jultomte. We will read Lucia Morning in Sweden by Ewa Rydåker and dance to seasonal music! If you’re not already a member, now is the perfect time to join. Museum members attending December’s Toddler Time will receive a double discount in the gift shop the morning of the program!

Toddler Time: Landscapes of the North

This month children will get an up close look at the glacial landscapes of the Arctic. We will read In Arctic Waters by Laura Crawford and then learn how we can do our part to fight against global warming to make sure the Arctic stays frozen for generations to come. Families will get to explore these regions through Museum’s newest exhibit Nordic Changes: Works by Diane Burko and then create their own works of glacial art!

A Date with Paint

Draw inspiration from our Nordic Changes exhibit and paint your own northern landscape! Make time to spend time with someone you love before the busy holiday rush at this exclusive museum date night experience. Our instructor will walk you through painting your very own Nordic scene as you enjoy a sample flight of Scandinavian chocolate! This event is BYOB and the price includes all class supplies. Pre-registration required. $35 members, $40 non-members.

Lucia Fest and Christmas Market

Light, warmth and Christmas songs have been hallmarks of the Lucia celebration at ASHM since 1939. Each year families pour through the magnificent bronze doors of the museum to be greeted by the aroma of freshly baked pastries, meatball dishes and strong Swedish coffee. Stroll through the Christmas Market, or Julmarknad, where Swedish delicacies, crafts, decorations, and imported gifts may be purchased, before the musical entertainment begins. The Swedish Christmas Café will be selling your favorite sweet and savory holiday foods and the SWEA bakery tables will be open all day.

Julbord

Join us for a very special Swedish holiday tradition. An authentic Christmas smorgasbord dinner is followed by the Lucia procession. The Christmas Market is open all evening. Members $55, non-members $65, children $25. Cash bar. Online registration is closed, to register call Lauren at 215-389-1776 ext 106, deadline is December 4th.
