Virtual Field Trip Friday: American Swedish Institute

Do you have a travel bug but COVID is keeping you from the world? ASHM is exited to bring the world to you with our new Virtual Field Trip Friday program series! Each month we will partner with museums throughout the U.S. and Scandinavia to bring their exhibits and collections to you. The program is 45 minutes long over the lunch hour so you can take a break from your day, whether at home or work, to be immersed in a Scandinavian cultural experience.

ASHM Book Discussion with Author Diane Zinna

January is the perfect time to curl up with a good book, a hot drink, and friends for an interesting conversation. ASHM is excited to host a book discussion on The All-Night Sun: A Novel by Diane Zinna. The event will feature the author herself who will share her inspiration for the story and provide deeper insights on the characters and themes. Please bring your questions and prepare to participate in this one of a kind conversation. The program is free for Museum members and $5 for nonmembers. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

Toddler Time: Winter Wonderland

The weather outside is frightful so staying home is so delightful! For our toddler time this month we will be exploring what winter is like in Sweden. Join us as we read Trouble with Trolls by Jan Brett and have winter fun indoors with snowflake crafts and activities. This month we will be doing our toddler time live on Zoom and are asking families to register below. This program is free for members and $5 for nonmembers. You can pick up free craft kits from January 12th-18th during our public hours or download the PDFs at home.

Virtual Pea Soup Dinner

This year ASHM is offering a to-go Pea Soup dinner you can enjoy from your own home with an added virtual component to experience the camaraderie of an evening with new friends. The to-go dinner will be available for pick up from the Museum and participants will receive a link to join a communal Zoom dinner online. Swedish Ambassador, Karin Olofsdotter, will open the evening with a welcome address and then participants will be assigned to breakout rooms for a small group dining experience.

Genealogy Meeting

Be sure to sign up for our newly formatted Virtual Genealogy Club meeting. Gather with fellow ASHM members and explore the branches of your Swedish ancestry. Bill Fagerstrom will discuss how DNA can help with genealogical research. The meeting will be held virtually over Zoom. This program is free for members. Follow the link below to register.
